I freaked out when Anya contacted me to do her Milwaukee Wisconsin brand photography! I have admired her as a human, photographer, and doula! If I wanted kids, she would be the first person I would contact to be my doula and birth photographer. Anya Wait Photo and Doula wanted photos of yourself to showcase the face that will help you through your rad adventure of bringing another human into the world.

I genuinely believe she was a godsend to those during their birthing process during the pandemic. When some significant others weren’t allowed in the room, she was there to comfort them in any way they needed, along with capturing one of the most intimate events in a person’s life.

Birth photography is gorgeous! As someone who will never go through this process, I adore looking at the strength in the photographs Anya captures! Along with the joy that is on everyone’s faces!

Anya also wanted to portray her personality fully! She is a swearing, badass human who will be there to fight for you! We had so much fun during her session, showed her rad personality, and of course, ended with a dance party! Every time I look at these images, I just see her beautiful soul! IF you need a doula or birth photographer, HIRE HER ASAP!

Get to Know Anya of Anya Wait Photo and Doula!

Favorite part of your job? What is your least favorite part?

Working with the most amazing birthing clients and their babies is my absolute favorite. Doing any kind of behind-the-scenes business crap is my least favorite.

What was something that surprised you about what you do?

That I would enjoy working with the hospital staff again — I used to work with home birth families primarily.

Best advice you’ve received?

My own, which is don’t take other people’s advice — trust your gut and your own inner knowingness.

What advice would you give an aspiring someone interested in your career or any career?

Be open-minded, and this work isn’t about you. It is about your client. Your choices aren’t necessarily the best choices for your clients.

Her your ideal client, who are they, why are they coming to you, why should they book you!?

My ideal client is a little bit crunchy and a little bit bougie. They love really nice things but also save money for the things that are truly important to them. Coming to me for non-judgmental guidance through pregnancy as well as support during labor and birth and occasionally help during the transitional postpartum period — such as an overnight doula.

They are coming to me because I am both a well-educated professional in birth and babies (25 + years) and work well in the hospital environment, but also work just as well in the home environment and am comfortable with ALL types of birth no matter who you are. I fully support LGBTQ+ families as well.
