Wisconsin State Park Elopement at Devils Lake State Park
Oh Man, this wedding was fun! This Wisconsin State Park Elopement at Sunset was so freaking AMAZING! We did some scouting with these amazing humans a week or so before their day. Finding the perfect Devils Lake State Park Surprise Elopement location to surprise their friends!
Little did their friends know that they were getting married when they arrived! They thought they were arriving to see Jerry propose to Heide! NOPE! They were invited to their SURPRISE WEDDING!
They were blown away when they walked up, and Jerry and Heide were all dressed up! All ready to get married!
Their amazing friend was dressed up like a pirate to make the day even more special! He married Jerry and Heide in front of Devils Lake with the sun beaming down!
Let’s get to know these two rad humans!
Heide, what do you love most about Jerry?
How sweet, patient, and considerate he is. He is such a supportive person and is so caring. He always knows how to make someone smile.
Jerry, what do you love most about Heide?
I love how empathic she is. She cares deeply and unconditionally. She’s opened my eyes in so many ways. Through her, I’ve been able to grow so much as a person.
What would your perfect Sunday be together?
A perfect Sunday for us would be making some brunch together. Followed by going to a park or a fun shop. And we would probably try to finish out our day by seeing a few friends.
What was the best part of planning your wedding day?
Preparation was fascinating! Heide teared up when she saw Jerry try on his suit the first time! Jerry really enjoyed tricking our friends into thinking he was going to propose.
In your own words describe your day from the night before your wedding to waking up on your first day MARRIED!?
The night before our wedding was honestly pretty calm! We felt we had everything prepared and were all ready for the big day. The morning of the wedding, Heide went to get her hair and makeup done as Jerry went to pick up the flowers and cake.
There were some pre-wedding jitters! For instance, Jerry was unsure what to do with his hair, so he went to get it done. But he ended up not liking it, so he showered it off, which was pretty funny. We ran a little late getting to the venue when we wanted. Due to little hiccups as we were getting dressed. When we arrived, we were immediately astonished by how amazing our officiant looked dressed as a pirate. Heide struggled to fasten Jerry’s boutonniere and almost stabbed him with the little pins.
We met up with our lovely photographers. And waited intently for our guests to arrive, who had no idea of our wedding.
When they did arrive, there was a shock, disbelief, and some tears.
We promptly chose a spot for the ceremony, and our officiant led us in a sea shanty. Followed by a lovely speech as he led us through the ceremony.
We exchanged rings, kissed, and immediately went to hug it out with our friends. After taking pictures, we headed home. And enjoyed cake together with our guests as late as we reasonably could. Then fell asleep easily due to our long, happy day.
The next morning greeted us and we had celebratory pancakes for breakfast. As we curled up and watched some Ghibli movies. One of our friends actually stayed with us for a few days. So we had a bit of a staycation with them and it was so much fun.
What was the greatest challenge in planning your wedding?
The greatest challenge was keeping everything a secret from our family and friends. It was hard to pull off but well worth it. We were least prepared for Heide’s original dress, not being able to make it in time. We had a backup dress, but it was different enough from the first one that we had to go out and buy a new veil and accessories for the both of us.
What personal touches did you add to make your Wisconsin State Park Elopement your own?
Everything felt like a personal touch! The location was a reference to last year! Our friends believing Jerry was going to propose to Heide at Devil’s Lake. The flowers included lilacs, Heide’s favorite flower, and Sweetpeas, what we both call each other. Heide also wore lilac earrings and a black dress with small purple flowers. Jerry had a tie to match as well. Heide had butterflies in her hair because Jerry gives her butterflies (cheesy, I know).
Everything really just felt like us and it came together so well.
How do you feel about your decision to go with Natural Intuition Photography?
We are delighted with our decision to go with Natural Intuition Photography! Both Christine and Justin have been so kind and lovely to work with! And we could tell they put a lot of work into capturing our big day for us, and we are so grateful. We would sincerely recommend them to any of our friends or family.
