I was ecstatic to get back to my favorite place for this Spring Engagement at Devils Lake with Evan and Rachel! When we were scouting locations one day, nowhere fit Evan and Rachel’s vision for their session. But then I thought of Devils Lake State Park! It was simply perfect! And we know exactly how to plan each session we have there like it’s 100% unique to the couple!
We started their session over on the rock trail for some adventurous photos on the boulders. Then we headed to the floating dock from some stunning lake and bluff views! All before heading to the Ice Age Trail outside the park, where there was an epic sunset happening!
Now let’s get to know this sweet couple!
We think it’s hard to pinpoint an exact moment as falling in love doesn’t feel like an ‘aha’ moment for us. There are definitely moments in our relationship that have strengthened that love and reminded us of it. For Evan, meeting Rachel’s family was after he fell in love but was a moment where that love was strengthened and hit him hard. For Rachel, she had butterflies at various moments through the early part of the relationship, such as when she saw Evan for the first time at Ancora.
Evan proposed on Wednesday, September 1st. We first went to our favorite restaurant together, Everly, disguised as a clever ploy to celebrate our “monthiversary” and one year of living together. We then went to the Arboretum after to take pictures at the golden hour. Little did Rachel know that Evan had gone there earlier that day to find a beautiful sugar maple tree whose leaves had already started to change. Evan navigated them over to the tree and then proposed (with his friend hiding in the bushes taking pictures). The Arboretum was a very special place to us and seemed like the right place to propose. Since we dated during the pandemic, outdoor places were our dates, our quiet moments, and our adventures, and the Arboretum was a place we visited often.
