Northern Wisconsin Lake Wedding in Presque Isle
When Janeen and Mike were planning their Northern Wisconsin Wedding Wedding they found the beautiful Sunrise Resort in Presque Isle. How did they find it!? They were hardcore searching for lake venues or cabins that were open! With COVID they had a hard time, but they lucked out. MAJORLY! The resort had a few cancellations due to COVID and they were able to get FIVE cabins! YAY!
Justin and I woke up early to travel from Madison to Presque Isle in Northern Wisconsin. We LOVE going North in Wisconsin, it just gets more beautiful as you go! Justin knows the Northern area of Wisconsin so well too! It’s awesome to go and hear stories each time we go from him.
When we arrived the ladies were getting ready in the cutest cabin! We were treated by Janeen’s niece and it was the best way to be welcomed! When it was time for the ceremony we all walked together to meet everyone down by the lake! They had the most intimate set up with a stunning lake backdrop for their Northern Wisconsin Wedding!
My all-time favorite part of their ceremony was when they made peanut butter and jelly sandwich! YES, they did this instead of sand or a unity candle! As a major PB&J fan this made my soul happy! Also, made me crave a sandwich!
Another rad thing is they fully trusted us and took a mini canoe trip in the wedding attire! I really wish Justin and I would have gotten in a canoe OR we had more time! We could have had so much fun and created so much magic on that water!
What is their proposal story?
We had a winter wonderland weekend in Canada and found this location that offered dog sledding, snowshoeing, ice skating, snow tubing — basically just tons of outdoor fun. Mike proposed after a delicious dinner in a parking lot walking back to our room. He asked me to walk to the lake, and I was like…it’s dark and cold, and we were on the lake all day! So yes, he proposed in a parking lot.
Janeen, what do you love most about Mike?
He’s a boy at heart, extremely kind to others, positive/happy-go-lucky, and hard-working.
Mike, what do you love most about Janeen?
Her love for the outdoors. She has a beautiful smile, is one of the most thoughtful people I know, and is very determined (some may call that stubborn 🙂
Their favorite part or memory from their wedding day?
Planning for the personal touches to make the wedding week/day personal and memorable for everyone. We pulled off boating activities, showing Goonies outdoors with a projector/screen (and popcorn!), playing a huge game of Capture the Flag, making sugar cookies/royal icing with wilderness cutouts/decor, and hand-painting our keepsakes.
Personal touches they added to their day!?
We had an outdoor ceremony right on the lakeshore. We love the outdoors, so we wouldn’t want it any other way. It was laid back and personal, and we lucked out by boats driving by and honking at perfect moments. Our officiant was a former high school friend and track teammate. We had a rather unique unity activity, too, which I will keep secret.
Advice for future couples?
Don’t have a big wedding. I never understood this. Planning a small wedding may be just as much work, but I’ll cherish the memories we had with everyone.
What was their experience with Natural Intuition Photography?
The day was a breeze. Christine was easy to work with, and I know we’re going to get photos we’ll love and stare at forever.
