It was so much fun planning and shooting this Summer Devils Lake Engagement Session!
When we first met Lindsey and Ethan over coffee a few months ago we had a blast! Lindsey came prepared with a slideshow of images that she adored. Along with showing us her vision for her wedding day. I LOVE when clients are this organized! It helps us all get on the same page!
When it came to planning their session, Lindsey and Ethan wanted to go to the Driftless area of Wisconsin. With coronavirus, we were unable to scout that we wanted. But, when we found the most epic of locations, Mother Nature had other plans!
A storm was rolling through Wisconsin on their engagement date. But, instead of canceling we replanned! So we stuck closer to home and got the same vision if not better they had planned for their session. We went to our favorite location in Wisconsin (so far), Devils Lake State Park!
Wanting to beat the rain, but the rain sprinkled on us while we hiked up the bluffs. No one was bothered at all. It actually felt good on that humid Wisconsin day!
During the session when we weren’t taking photos, everyone was quiet. We were just taking in nature around us. There were many occasions that we commented on the quiet and how nice it was!
Lindsey: I got terribly sick one winter about 4-5 months into dating and Ethan drove 2 hours in the middle of the night to come to take care of me because I didn’t have any family close by.
Ethan: There was a time shortly after we started dating that we were talking in the car and she said that I made her feel safe, protected, and uniquely special, the way only two other people ever made her feel before and that was her dad and grandpa.
Lindsey dropped Ethan off at the fire station and then headed over to Starbucks to work on some personal projects and enjoy morning coffee. After about an hour at Starbucks, Lindsey was startled by someone shaking her chair. She turned around and Ethan was on one knee proposing in his fire uniform and a fire truck parked out front. To Lindsey’s surprise, for the first time ever, Ethan ACTUALLY completely surprised her with this proposal.
The rock stairs at Devil’s Lake can be SUPER slippery! I warned them before we went up and before we went down, to go slowly. With the rain and dust, it made for a slow hike down. But, it was so heartwarming how Ethan made sure Lindsey was getting down safely!
