An epic adventure elopement doesn’t have to involve scaling cliffs, trekking through the wilderness, or flying halfway around the world (though it absolutely can and we’re here for it). The beauty of eloping lies in the absolute freedom to do whatever you and your partner see fit.
Today, we’re sharing our favorite elopement locations in a city that’s close to our heart (and home). Madison, Wisconsin is an elopement gem for couples who prefer city parks and sidewalks to rugged mountain trails. But of course, Madison’s not without some great little slices of nature.

Whether you’re a local couple looking to elope closer to home, or out-of-towners eager to discover a new city, Madison should be at the top of your list. Here are some of our favorite spots for elopements:
Gates of Heaven
This stunning former Synagogue is a local landmark in Madison’s James Madison Park. This quaint space features huge arched windows, wood floors, and beautiful wood-carved accents to backdrop a romantic and intimate ceremony.
Though there’s room to seat up to 98 people, it’s snug enough to make even the smallest elopement feel cozy. In one direction, you’re steps away from the lakeshore. In the other direction, you’re steps away from the state Capital, making this a perfect spot for a wealth of photo opportunities. Here’s what a Gates of Heaven elopement can look like. Madison Capitol Building
The Madison Capitol Building is the perfect location for couples seeking a truly classical style in their elopement. The Capitol Rotunda features several stories of green marble columns and intricate mosaics. Marble staircases and wooden accents make for a more sophisticated and formal elopement backdrop. Step outside for more opportunities on grand steps leading to the entrance or in the surrounding park grounds. Keep in mind you’ll need a permit for this one.

Judge’s Chambers
Believe it or not, some of Madison’s judges have beautiful office chambers available for use as elopement locations. Within Madison’s Capitol Building, the Judge’s Chambers are the perfect stately backdrop to an extra intimate elopement. Check out this elopement we captured here.
Devil’s Lake
Of course, we can’t do a whole list of elopement locations without mentioning at least one outdoor adventure. Devil’s Lake is one of the most iconic natural locations in all of Wisconsin. Have a quiet picnic on the bluffs before or after your ceremony as just the two of you or invite a group of friends and family to celebrate by the water. There are even building rentals for those wanting to host a rad dance party.
